Not many people know Manish Kumar Yadav, the sculptor, but hardly anyone living in Lucknow would have missed his stainless steel cycle sculptures* that adorn the walls near Gate No. 3 of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Park, in Gomtinagar.
Another famous sculpture by Manish is the abstract steel sculpture inthe UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam office compound on Ashok Marg, Lucknow. You will also find his works at Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University on Deva Road – a world map and a life size clay sculpture of a hand, placed at their reception.
More recently, he’s crafted medallions of Narendra Modi and Adityanath Yogi, for the reception at the New Lok Bhavan. Made out of chavant clay, especially imported from the USA, these medallions required a lot of perseverance and precision since they were being presented to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister!
A Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the Lucknow College of Art, Manish comes from a family of artistes – his parents are involved in the performing arts, while his sister is also his senior at Arts College. Since 2002, Manish’s work has been showcased at various exhibitions at the State Lalit Kala Akademi, in Lucknow. In 2008, he won an award for his sculpture at the Art Mall Delhi. His first solo show came in 2012, at the prestigious Rabindra Bhawan in Delhi.
Primarily working in Lucknow, his work has got him public recognition and many accolades. His work is sold online and he has also set up a firm to do commercial work.
Talking about his personal strengths, Manish says he likes working with glass fibres and clay modelling. Currently, he is adding to his skillset by learning silicone molding and 3-D printing which allows for more precision. For large commercial projects, he has a dedicated and loyal team which helps him in molding, casting and painting work
