WEEK-LONG CELEBRATIONS TO MARK LUCKNOW UNIVERSITY’S CENTENARY YEAR

Established in 1919, the pride of the city, the University of Lucknow has completed 100 years of excellence. Whenever we begin to talk about Lucknow, we cannot not mention Lucknow University. With so many famous alumni as its ambassadors, the University or LU, students popularly call it, is an iconic institution. To mark its centenary year, a grand celebration spanning seven days is scheduled from 19th November to 25th November. The event was inaugurated today by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at LU’s famed Malviya Hall.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE EVENT

19th November: Folk singer Malini Awasthi and poet Yatindra Mishra will be performing at Awadh ki Roshan Chowki, 5.30 pm.

20th November: The second days has a number of events:
Sport Festival – 8:30 am
Literary festival – 2:30 pm
Art Festival – 3:30 pm
Ram Leela by Yash Chauhan – 5:30 pm

21st November: The days starts with a Convocation Ceremony at 11:00 am followed by inauguration of the Art Museum at Tagore Library.
Daastan e Tamanna e Sarfarosh by Himanshu Bajpai – 2:30 pm
Kathak Recital by Kumkum Dhar – 5:30 pm

22nd November: The day is full of interesting events like a centennial walk from the Lucknow University to Raj Bhawan in the morning at 6:30 am,
Virtual Interface with Anupam Kher – 2:30 pm
Pansa, a play by theatre artist Salim Arif – 5.30 pm

23rd November: Science + Fun = Scientainment. The event is a cocktail of Science Satire and Poetry by Pankaj Prasun, at 12:30 pm
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Smriti Sandhya by Kumar Vishwas – 5:30 pm

24th November: An Alumni Meet is organised at around 4:30 pm, the meet will be happening in two batches, one for the alumni of first 50 years and the second for the alumni of the last 50 years. DJ Narain and Anup Jalota will be performing for them

25th November: A peotry reading by Campus Poets, followed by Foundation Day Celebrations.

A commemorative ₹100 coin will be released by PM Narendra Modi virtually to celebrate the University Foundation Day. Lucknow University will become the third University in the country to be issued such a commemorative coin.

The Prime Minister will also release a Coffee Table Book and stamp on the occasion.

In order to ensure Social distancing, the University has decided to livestream the events on its YouTube channel.
