The Gadbad Jhala Market in Aminabad is known for having the largest selection of bangles. Any colour, metal, glass, crystals – whatever you can think of, you will get it at the 30 plus shops here, dedicated only to bangles!
You can simply walk into any shop and pick up what you like. But if there’s one shop we would recommend it would be Bangles Merchant. Don’t look for the board, because you won’t any. The shop is clearly the biggest in the market, and is popularly known as Badi Dukan. Take the garment you want matching bangles with, and watch the shopkeepers brings several colours and textures together to create a bangle set for you. Then you get to keep or remove bangles as per your budget.
Prices start at Rs.30 for a dozen and go up to Rs.400 a dozen bangles too! Fancy kadas are more expensively priced.
You will find a lot of shops selling wedding choodas for brides. The extremely ornamental ones or the really simple ones, you get all kinds here. The latest in the market though are Rajasthani Choodas, with figurines and stone work on them.
Bangles either comes from Rajasthan or Ferozabad. You can also pick up a pair of customises kada with the name of the bride and groom, or husband and wife, if you like to wear your heart on your sleeve! A pair of customised bangles comes for Rs.850.
There’s also a large variety of kaleere to choose from in the Gadbada Jhala market. We found a pretty floral design, the latest here, at Bangle House. This pair of ‘designer’ kaleere comes for Rs.1600!
Every time you visit Gadbad Jhala, you’re bound to come across something new and novel! So go on, explore the market. It can be crowded in the evenings, so head there in the morning hours, or the afternoon.
