Want to eat good food but don’t want to head out to a restaurant? Home cooks to the rescue! Here are some of our favourite home cooks in Lucknow, all of who are known for their speciality dishes. In Part 3 of the series, we have:

Achari Gosht, Shami Kebab and Mutton Biryani from Radhida Zaheer’s kitchen

A lot of us remember Mrs. Zaheer as the graceful teacher from school, but what she really is, is a stellar cook! She has been associated with the home catering business for more than 25 years. What we love about her food is that it’s as close to ‘ghar ka khana’ as you can get – in fact, her recipes are handed down by her mother. Rashida’s speciality includes Chicken Kofta, Korma, Achari Gosht and Achari Fish, and kebabs like Shami and Boti, apart from Biryani. She also customises the food as per the client’s requirement, so if you want your shami kebabs to have no onions and coriander, she will make that change for you. You need to place an order a day before with her; though she is super popular, she only takes on a few orders a day. Arrangements for picking the food would have to be made by you. You can taste her yum Shami Kebabs, Boti Kebabs, Aloo Gosht and Chicken Biryani at Naimat Khana, in Qaiserbagh.

Veg biryani from Tasty Khana

Started a year and half ago by a husband-wife team, Tasty Khana has a wide vegetarian menu to choose from – they make starters, noodles and pastas, rolls and wraps, mains like paneer in different preparations, and rice. They also make a number of Indian sweets like Annakoot Halwa and Besan Walnut Laddoo as well as desserts like chocolate pastries and cakes. They need a couple of hours notice to prepare the order, as everything is made fresh – in fact even the shopping for the ingredients begins only when an order is placed! They deliver throughout the city.
