Move over laddoos, because during Ganeshotsav, the mithai of choice is Lord Ganesha’s favourite modaks. Read on to know for where you can go modak shopping in the city:

1. CHHAPPAN BHOG
Khoya Modak, Nariyal Modak, Kaju Modak, Pista Modak… the list goes on. Chhappan Bhog makes and sells 16 types of modaks, with the Anjeer modak being our favourite (Rs.1600 per kg). The new addition is the assorted Modak Thal which is Rs.1250 for 850 gms. The modaks are on the smaller side and literally melt in your mouth. Modaks are available from a couple of days before Ganesh Chaturthi, till the last day of the Ganesh Utsav.

2. RADHEY LAL’S PARAMPARA SWEETS 

Khoya modaks from Parampara

Parampara makes and sells more than seven types of modaks, with the Besan and Khoya ones being most in demand. You can either choose from the readily available ones or if there is a combination you fancy, they will make that for you too. The modaks are available from a day before Ganesh Chaturthi to the day of the visarjan.
Price: Rs.500/kg onwards, depending on the modak
Timings: 8.30 a.m to 11 p.m.

3. MAYUR SWEETS 
Tucked away on the congested Alambagh crossing, Mayur is a popular joint for savory as well sweet snacks. During the Ganesh festival, the shop makes three types of modaks – white khoya, brown khoya and boondi. The taste of the khoya and boondi modaks sure makes up for the lack of variety.

Timings: 7.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.

4. MADHURIMA
From the traditional besan modak to the popular kesar modak to the kid-friendly chocolate modak, Madhurima houses a modak for everyone. One can also customize the size of the modak – so if you are looking at offering the Lord a single piece of sweet weighing a kilo or less, then this is the place you need to place that order.
Price: Rs. 600/kg onwards

5. RAM ASREY
At any given time during the Ganesh Festival, the shop will have three types of modaks – khoya, khoya with kesar and besan readily available; however, they also make pista and badam modaks on order. The modaks are just the right amount of sweet and are a delight for your palate – no wonder they sell out super quick!

6. CLASSIC RADHEY SWEETS
It’s raining modaks at Classic this Ganpati – from Kaju, Khoya, Boondi, Kesariya, Besan to many more. Ganpati’s favourite sweets are available here during all the days of the festival. Looking for a premium selection of modals? Try Anjeer, which retails here at Rs.1250/kg.
