THE CHANDRIKA DEVI TEMPLE IN LUCKNOW DATES BACK TO THE RAMAYANA ERA

If you wish to seek the blessings of the mother, Maa Chandrika Devi Temple may be the place for you to go to. Located on the banks of the Gomti River, some 28kms from Lucknow at Bakshi-ka-Talab, the temple has great religious significance. Though many legends abound, the most famous one is that of Raj Kumar Chandraketu, son of Laxaman from Ramayana. Once, riding atop the Ashwamegha horse, Chandraketu got lost in the forest on a moonless night. He prayed to the goddess for help, who appeared before him and spread moonlight all around and kept him safe. Later a temple was built by Chandraketu at the spot where the goddess appeared. She is revered here in the form of stone or ‘pindi’  with three heads.

There is great significance given to darshan on ‘aamavasya’ or the no moon day. The temple especially comes alive in all its glory  during Navratras every year.
