TARBOUSH: LUCKNOW’S FIRST AUTHENTIC ARABIC RESTAURANT

On a quiet Gomtinagar by-lane, there is a small and vibrant little restaurant that is quickly becoming the talk of the town, and for all the right reasons. We are talking about Tarboush, that promises to tantalise your senses with Middle-Eastern and Arabic cuisine.

WHAT
Owned and operated by an Indo-Arabic father-daughter duo, Tarboush is a paradise for those who crave delicious middle eastern cuisine. Step into the cutesy joint and its warm, cozy interiors immediately make you feel at home. There is an open kitchen, with a traditional tabun or oven, which is used for baking the deliciously moist breads as well as for grilling the food. They also have a traditional shawarma set up, along with a rotisserie.

While the restaurant and its interiors are quite modest, the flavor of the food can very easily have you believe that you are sitting in the Middle East. Strong Arab flavours marry beautifully with Indian spices resulting in flavorsome and delicious food.

WHAT TO ORDER
Though the menu isn’t elaborate, the chefs sure know what they are doing. Our favourites from the menu include the Shawarma Platter (Rs.220 for a portion), the Taboula salad (Rs.120 a plate) and the Kabsah, which is a rice dish (Rs.90 a plate). If you prefer vegetarian, opt for the Shourba (Rs.140), the Falafel platter (Rs.180 a platter) and the Manaqeesh Zatar.

Finish it all off with a bite of coconut-lemon based Basbousa and a cup of strong Arabic Coffee (Rs.120) or kehwa and let its nutty flavour linger on your taste buds.

NL Tip: Give your kehwa cup a little shake if you don’t want any more. If you leave the cup on the table, they will keep refilling it.
