Mata Badal Pansari – a modest shop in Aminabad – has been doing roaring business since 1857, despite no advertising or promotion. The shop gets its name from the owner himself. Their clientele once upon a time included Nawabs and the British. Now, not some of the most famous chefs of India like Ranveer Brar, Vikas Khanna and Sanjeev Kapoor. Both, localites and visitors to Lucknow swear by this shop, because what you get here won’t get anywhere else
WHAT
It is what you would call a general store, but Mata Badal Pansari is best known for selling authentic, unadulterated spices, and herbal products like Multani Mitti powder from Multan, Neem powder, Amla powder, Shikakai and Henna powder. You also get top quality dry fruits, especially figs and walnuts here. Rare herbs and exotic spices that you will probably not find anywhere else in the city, like Chiraita, Mulethi, Paneer ke Phool and Kesar, Kala Jeera, Pipalli, Meetha and Biryani Ittar, are available here. Also, this is the go-to for Ayurvedic medicines such as Guggul Churna and Pudina tablets. . You name any jadi-booti and they have it.
