LUCKNOW’S FLOWER MARKET – KANCHAN MARKET

One would think that the Phool Wali Gali in Chowk is the go-to place for all your flower needs. But except for a few flower shops there, the flower market or Mandi has shifted to another street in the vicinity.

WHAT IS THE PHOOL WALI GALI?
During the reign of the Nawabs, Chowk was infamous for its ‘nightlife’ and since the courtesans lived in the vicinity too, the flower shops came into being there. However, today the narrow street is lined with shops selling chikankari clothes and silverware, and flower shops that deal mostly in marigolds and desi roses flowers

KANCHAN MARKET IS THE NEW FLOWER MARKET NOW
The new flower market is located on a street ahead of Neebu Park, before you hit the Gol Darwaza, Chowk. It has a very different clientele – hotels, shop owners, wedding decorators and so on. From roses to carnations, liliums to lilies, sunflowers to marigolds, this market has a variety of flower options.
Besides being spoilt by choices here, one can also get customised flower arrangements. The florists here do wedding decor, arrangements in mandirs, hotel lobbies and now even deal in artificial flowers. So whether you are in need of a bouquet, a centre piece or a corsage, this market takes care of all your ‘floral’ needs.
Another great thing about the market is that everything here is much cheaper than elsewhere. A single stem of rose can cost you as little as Rs. 5 here, which otherwise could cost you anything between Rs.9 to Rs. 15. The earlier you go to the market, the more juicier the bargains are.

Timings: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. But in summers, the bulk of the deals are done before noon. The market is open all days.

Location: Kanchan Market, Chowk
