LUCKNOW’S CHOR BAZAR IS ACTUALLY THE SHAHI BAZAR OF YESTERYEARS

Chor Bazar, set up every Sunday in Nakkhas area of the city, is as intriguing as its name. There’s virtually nothing you won’t find here. However, shopkeepers here will tell you that this is not a market for stolen goods. In fact, they are at pains to clarify that the market used to be known as the Shahi Bazar of Lucknow in the olden days. While a lot of stuff that you find here is second-hand stuff, there’s also an equally long inventory of brand new things being sold in this market.

WHAT CAN YOU FIND HERE?
The question actually should be: what can’t you find here! And at dirt cheap prices.

From clothes, fabrics, shoes, belts, goggles, slippers, to gadgets, secondhand mobile phone spare parts, chargers, batteries, LED lights – you will get everything here. Bluetooth headphones, selfie sticks, power banks – that too! But don’t expect originals.

Household items, fans, second hand TV sets, hardware stalls selling bathroom fittings, shelves, iron & steel fittings, second hand furniture – it’s all there.

Tools, hammers, locks, chains, scales, nuts, bolts, nails and screws – you name it and it’s available.

You can shop for new cycles and tricycles, new and old sports and gym equipment, cricket bats.

Collector’s items such as vintage radio sets and coins dating back a 100 years are also being sold in this roadside market.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
Most things are priced so cheaply you won’t feel the need to bargain.
The market is crowded, so beware of pick pockets.
We didn’t see a single woman there!
