Ever wondered how the Meteorological Department makes weather forecasts? Well, here’s your chance to know exactly how. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Lucknow has opened the doors to public for 6 days to make people aware about the functioning of weather and climate prediction services of the Met department.

WHAT
To mark its 143rd Foundation day, IMD is organising a six-day event, starting January 15, at the State Meteorological Observatory Centre in Lucknow, where visitors are welcome to come and understand the tools and techniques that are used for measuring diurnal temperature, wind and rainfall. The exhibition cum informative session gives public an opportunity to know the functioning of the automated weather station, which collects weather-related information using sensors. At the Doppler Weather Radar Station, visitors are made aware of the functioning of the radar, which sends and receives signals responsible for weather forecasts.
