GO BIRD-WATCHING, CYCLING AND PICNICKING AT THE NAWABGANJ BIRD SANCTUARY

There aren’t many interesting things in drivable distance from Lucknow, but the Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary is one of the few places that are worth seeing, and just a short drive away.WHAT TO EXPECT
> Lots of greenery and a feeling of being in the wilderness. The place could be better, as far as maintenance goes. But it is still home to various rare species of birds like the White Breasted Kingfisher, Little Cormorant, Edret and Asian Open Bill Stork, to name a few. The lake where the migratory birds come to stay is one of the major attractions for visitors.
> The Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary is a perfect getaway for a picnic on on a sunny winter day. There’s a walkway inside the sanctuary, and a safe cycle track going amidst the trees that everyone will enjoy. You will find wooden benches every 20 meters to sit back and relax. If you are lucky enough like us, you could even spot a Watercock.
> You can also choose to stay overnight at the Nawabganj Resort, if you are looking for more than a day trip.

FACILITIES
Right at the entrance is the beautiful Nawabganj Resort where you can stay and wake up to the heavenly bird chirps. You need not worry about carrying the food along with, for they have a huge, well maintained restaurant, which serves a variety of food at affordable rates followed, by a beer bar on the next floor.  Cycle are available on rent for Rs 10 per hour.

HOW TO REACH
Situated on the Lucknow-Kanpur road, the sanctuary is easily accessible from both Lucknow and Kanpur.  From Lucknow, follow the Lucknow-Kanpur road via Amausi airport for 48 kms. Nawabganj is located on the left, 5 kms after the Toll-Tax.

NL TIP
> Don’t forget to carry your own binoculars to have a better view of the birds.
> Carry your Aadhar Card, which is required for buying tickets.
> Carry a water bottle and snacks to have while you spend some time walking or watching the birds. But beware of the monkeys.
> Best time to go – January/February when the migratory birds come
