Considering that Wahid Biryani started only in 1955, this is one of the relatively newer biryani places in Lucknow to have taken on legendary proportions. Wahid Biryani does kebabs, biryani, chicken and mutton dishes, even butter chicken! But you must go there for the biryani. And if you’re one of those who like their chicken more than mutton, don’t miss their Chicken Biryani.
What’s special about it? According to the owners, it’s the potli masala that they infuse into the rice while cooking the biryani. The potli is quite literally a pouch of 55 masalas that will take the smell of the meat out of the rice. Interestingly, they also sell just the biryani rice, without the chicken pieces!
Wahid Biryani today has four outlets in the city – in Aminabad, Nazirabad, Lalbagh and Vikas Nagar – and a website to boot as well! Why not, it’s going the franchise route, after all. They started out with a tiny shop in a narrow lane on Nazirabad, and that shop still exists. But it’s their outlet in Aminabad, right next to Tunday Kababi, that’s more popular now. We recommend take-away or home delivery by one of the food delivery portals in Lucknow.
