FIRST TIME IN LUCKNOW: A DIWALI FLOWER MARKET BY CSIR-NBRI

Experience a riot of colours at this first of its kind Diwali Flower Mela organised by the CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) Lucknow. The two-day flower market is coming up on October 21 and 22, 2022, just a couple of days before Diwali, and will have flower farmers selling their produce directly to buyers. This is part of CSIR’s Floriculture Mission being run in 21 states across India since 2021. The Mission encourages floral farming among urban and rural youth to help them generate income.

What to Expect

The four varieties of flowers that will be available at the Diwali Flower Market are marigold, tuberose, gerbera and rose. Some 40 farmers from Lucknow will be putting their flower produce on sale. The farmers have been part of the CSIR Floriculture Mission and were educated about the agro technology of farming flower crops.

Perfectly Timed

The event has been perfectly timed to help shop deck up their homes in flowers this festive season. Whether it’s a floral rangoli, flower arrangements at the entrance or in the home mandir, the best way (after diyas) to get your home Diwali ready is to do it up with flowers. But instead of buying flowers from retail florists at hiked up prices, you can buy them directly from the farmers. It’s a win-win for both – this is a great opportunity for farmers to encash the festive demand for flowers.
