September 26th is the Foundation Day of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) – India’s leading organisation for research and development in the field of Science & Technology. To celebrate this day, the NBRI (CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute) Lucknow is opening its laboratories and gardens for the public. While the NBRI Gardens are open to the public, mainly morning-walkers, round the year, the other facilities of the NBRI that have restricted access will also be open to the public on September 26, 2022 – a rare opportunity for science enthusiasts and students and nature lovers!

What to Expect?

Visitors will have access to the following facilities of the NBRI on CSIR Foundation Day:
Herbarium – An internationally recognised ‘National Repository of Indian flora’, which houses about 2,86,927 specimens!

The Herbarium

Botanic Garden – One of the oldest and historical Botanic Gardens of India, which is actually the historical ‘Sikander Bagh’ laid out around 1800 AD as a royal garden by the nawabs of Lucknow. The garden, full of greenery and vast collection of plant diversity is spread over an area of 65 acres!
