U.P. EXCISE DEPTT MAKES HOME BAR LICENCE MANDATORY

According to newspaper reports, the Uttar Pradesh Excise Department has issued a fresh set of rules for obtaining a personal home bar licence. As per the new rules, citizens are allowed to keep a maximum of 4 bottles of liquor (750 ml), which includes two each of a foreign brand and two of Indian origin at home without a licence. A licence is mandatory for those who wish to set up a bar at home. A maximum of 72 bottles (varying among the 15 categories of liquor) are permitted to be kept at home with a licence.

The rule is not new. A home bar licence has been mandatory, but rarely enforced in the state. As per reports, this time, the UP Excise Department has also said that customers may be asked to present a home bar licence while buying liquor in bulk from shops .

How & Where to Apply for a Home Bar Licence

You can apply for a home bar can be applied at the district Excise Department’s office, which will be approved by the district magistrate. The annual licence fee is ₹12,000 with a security deposit of ₹51,000.
