Last minute shopping for Diwali puja? Here’s where to go:

GITA PUJAN BHANDAR, LA TOUCHE ROAD
There are a lot of shops in a around this area that cater to you puja ghar needs. If there’s time to visit only one shop, go to this one. It has everything you could possibly need – from diyas, puja thalis, garlands to bandhanwars for your puja room. What they specialise in though are marble statues of gods and goddesses in all shapes and sizes. Great collection! Also, this is the place to go to for poshaks, which are clothes for the idols.

HARI OM PUJA BHANDAR, ASHOK MARG
This shop again has everything that you can think of – conch shells, diya and batis, ornamental items for the idols, a festive range of bandhanwars and garlands. While they do stock Ganesh-Laxmi idols for Diwali, they do not keep idols round the year.

TEMPORARY MARKETS
If you’re looking to shop puja items specifically for Diwali, there are lots of temporary markets that have come up in the city that peddle everything from puja thalis to mandir decorations, Ganesh-Laxmi idols and material for rangolis. You could go to:
> Bhootnath Market, Indiranagar – It’s a vast spread of stalls that will meet all your demands. There’s also a shop set up right inside the Bhootnath Mandir, which also keeps some great stuff. Go post 9 pm, when the shops in the market have shut for the day, to avoid crowds.
> Tedhi Pulia, Aliganj – Rows and rows of shops that sell beautiful faux flower garlands and bandhanwars, among other things, have come up in the area. The area is extremely crowded in the evenings.
> IT Crossing, Mahanagar – Like on all other festivals, you will find stalls selling great puja ka saman at this time of the year too. Go late night even if you want to skip traffic chaos.
> Ashok Marg, Hazratganj – The temporary stalls here specialise in Ganesh-Laxmi idols of all shapes, sizes and price range. There are Bengali artists who come down to sell their wares too. Check out a few stalls before finally picking up your idols for the year.
